About
Juniper Berry Essential Oil is distilled from dried berries (cones) of Juniperus communis of Turkish origin. A colourless to pale yellow mobile liquid: fresh, resinous and woody-balsamic, with the dry gin-like top note the material is known for. Pure and undiluted.
Functional Properties
This is the unstandardised berry grade: alpha-pinene 55–70 % and myrcene >15 % define the dry, pine-fresh opening, with limonene 2–6 % and beta-pinene >1.0 % rounding the top. Beneath them a small sesquiterpene tail — (E)-caryophyllene >1.0 % and germacrene D >1.0 % — adds the woody, slightly peppery persistence that carries the note through a formulation.
Quality
The six nominated constituents total > 85 %, and identified compounds > 95 % of GC-FID area. Raw-material total ash is below 4 %, benzo(a)pyrene under 10 ppb and heavy metals non-detectable. 24-month shelf life in 1–5 kg bottles or 10–25–50 kg drums. Not recommended for use during pregnancy.
Applications
- Spirits and flavour: gin, aquavit, marinades and meat seasoning, usually well below 0.05 %
- Fine perfumery: dry resinous top note in masculine toiletries
- Cosmetics: typically 0.1–1.0 %, for a clean, astringent character
