Bergamot Essential Oil is the cold-pressed peel oil of Citrus bergamia, expressed from fresh fruit peel with no carrier or added solvent. A pale yellow-green mobile liquid, fresh and sweet-floral over a balsamic base.
Functional Properties
The character sits in the oxygenated fraction: linalyl acetate >15.0 % and linalool >7.5 %. That ester–alcohol pair gives bergamot a floral persistence lemon and orange peel oils lack, while limonene >40.0 %, β-pinene >5.0 % and γ-terpinene >3.0 % supply the citrus lift. Being an expressed oil it carries photosensitising furocoumarins: in leave-on skin products observe the applicable dermal limit or specify a bergapten-reduced (FCF) grade.
Quality
The six specified constituents total >85.0 % by GC-FID. Arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury are non-detectable, benzo(a)pyrene stays below 10 ppb and microbiology complies. Insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol and fixed oils; 24-month shelf life in 50 mL–1 L amber glass or 5–25 kg lacquered steel drums.
