Grapefruit Essential Oil is cold-pressed from the fresh peel of Citrus paradisi: a pale yellow to pinkish mobile liquid with a sharp, slightly bitter and green citrus odour, supplied undiluted and without carrier.
Functional Properties
This is a near single-component terpene oil. Limonene is specified at >80.0 %, with myrcene >1.0 %. That concentration explains both halves of its usefulness: the bitter-fresh top note separates grapefruit clearly from sweet orange in beverage and household work, while a hydrocarbon content of this order makes the oil an effective natural degreaser for non-polar soils. As with every expressed peel oil, follow photosensitivity guidance in leave-on skin applications.
Quality
Specified constituents total >85.0 % by GC-FID. Loss on drying is below 5 %, arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury are non-detectable, benzo(a)pyrene stays under 10 ppb, and the microbiological panel complies. Shelf life is 24 months, in 50 mL–1 L amber glass or 5–25 kg lacquered steel drums.
