- Dosage and use: Bergamot is the signature top note of Earl Grey tea flavouring and of Eau de Cologne. In flavour work it lifts confectionery, black tea blends, bitter aperitifs and citrus desserts; in fragrance it gives a bright, sparkling opening with more floral persistence than lemon or orange. Note that expressed bergamot oil contains photosensitising furocoumarins: for leave-on skin products either observe the applicable dermal limit or specify a bergapten-reduced (FCF) grade. Compositional figures in the Extract Specification and the chromatographic profile refer to the essential-oil fraction of the product, determined by GC-FID area normalisation; the carrier is stated separately above.
