We Have Begun Producing Oak Wood CO₂ Extract
As a supercritical CO₂ extraction laboratory, Altraflora has added a new natural extract to its portfolio: oak wood (Quercus) CO₂ extract. Our production line is now live and we are accepting sample requests.
What is oak wood CO₂ extract?
Oak wood CO₂ extract is a solvent-residue-free natural extract obtained by processing toasted oak wood with supercritical carbon dioxide. The low-temperature CO₂ process preserves heat-sensitive aroma compounds intact, delivering a clean, high-purity profile.
Its signature scent is soft, balsamic and woody — a heart of vanilla cream and sweet teacake notes over a base of aged oak barrel, raisin and a light rum nuance. The key compounds behind this profile are vanillin, syringaldehyde, lignin-derived phenolics and oak lactone (whisky lactone / quercus lactone), the signature of whiskey and cognac aromas.
Where is it used?
- Perfumery: Woody-balsamic base notes; aged-wood, leather and gourmand accords.
- Spirits & beverage flavor: Reinforcing or mimicking barrel-aging character in whiskey, cognac, brandy and rum; enriching color and tannin structure.
- Accelerated maturation: Achieving the woody-vanilla character of traditional barrel aging in a shorter time.
- Food flavor: Warm, vanilla-woody nuances in baked goods, desserts and confectionery.
