About

Amaranth seed supercritical CO₂ extract (Amaranthus caudatus) delivers the richest natural terrestrial source of squalene—the triterpene hydrocarbon prized in premium cosmetic and nutraceutical formulations. This golden-yellow oil standardizes to >6% squalene content, far exceeding the 0.1–0.5% typical of olive oil.

Functional Properties

Squalene (6.03% as tested, CAS 111-02-4) provides documented emollient, antioxidant, and skin-barrier-supporting properties. Its structural similarity to human sebum enables deep penetration without occlusion, making it ideal for anti-aging serums and barrier-repair formulations. The fatty acid profile features linoleic acid (48.73%) and oleic acid (25.36%) as dominant components, supported by palmitic acid (19.62%). The tocopherol fraction—α-tocopherol (759 ppm) and γ-tocopherol (413 ppm)—provides natural oxidative stability.

Quality

Standardized to >6% squalene content by HPLC analysis. Enhanced with rosemary antioxidant (E392) at 0.5% for oxidative stability. Peroxide value <5 meq/kg, free fatty acids <2%. Heavy metals and microbial contamination comply with pharmacopoeial specifications.

Applications

  • Premium Cosmetics: Anti-aging serums, moisture-lock formulations, barrier repair products
  • Nutraceuticals: Skin health supplements, cardiovascular support formulations
  • Functional Foods: High-PUFA ingredient for specialty nutrition products
